The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) is teaming up with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) to promote greener technology in Nigeria’s auto sector. A proposed 2025 Auto Expo in Abuja is at the center of the collaboration, aiming to spotlight advances in compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles (EVs).

Chidibebere Onwumere, Executive Director of the National Policy Advocacy Center at ACCI, led the delegation in discussions at NADDC headquarters. “Carbon emissions are a global challenge, and adopting new technologies is key to solving this problem,” Onwumere said, highlighting the event’s potential to transform the sector.

Director General of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, stressed the importance of public-private collaboration in tackling Nigeria’s environmental and industrial challenges. “Vehicles contribute about 20% of carbon emissions in Nigeria,” Osanipin noted, pointing to the council’s initiatives promoting CNG and EV adoption.

NADDC is driving innovation with programs such as the National Occupational Standard for CNG and Electric Vehicles, developed in partnership with Nigerian universities. The council is also prioritizing EV infrastructure, including battery production for electric tricycles and cars.

The meeting concluded with a tour of NADDC’s EV charging station, underscoring the council’s commitment to clean energy solutions. Onwumere praised NADDC’s efforts, stating, “Public-private partnerships are crucial for economic success.”
