Cadillac is preparing a next-generation CT5 lineup, including the high-performance CT5-V Blackwing, offering fresh hope to enthusiasts who feared one of America’s last V8 sports sedans would disappear as the auto industry shifts toward electrification.

The current CT5 lineup is scheduled to end production at the close of 2026. However, information from sources cited by GM Authority indicates that Cadillac has already approved a successor, with the new models expected to debut in 2027 as 2028 model-year vehicles.

Performance Sedan Will Continue

Cadillac has previously confirmed that the CT5 family will continue with internal combustion engines, but this is the first indication that the flagship CT5-V Blackwing has also received approval for a new generation.

The company recently showcased the current CT5-V Blackwing in a promotional video featuring Cadillac Formula One drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas testing the sedan alongside the Optiq-V electric vehicle at the Concours Club circuit in Miami, Florida.

The appearance of the performance sedan in the campaign has reinforced expectations that Cadillac intends to keep the model alive beyond the current generation.

Powertrain Questions Remain

According to the report, the next-generation CT5 is expected to ride on an updated Alpha 2-2 platform, which could also underpin a future Chevrolet Camaro.

Cadillac has not disclosed what engines will power the next-generation lineup.

The current CT5 is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 237 horsepower, while the CT5-V features a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6.

The flagship CT5-V Blackwing is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 generating 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can currently choose between a six-speed manual transmission and a 10-speed automatic, although Cadillac has not confirmed whether the manual gearbox will continue into the next generation.

Production Expected in Michigan

The report says production of the next-generation CT5 is expected to begin before the end of 2027 at General Motors’ Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan, with the CT5-V Blackwing likely to follow shortly afterward.

Cadillac has not announced pricing or an official launch timeline. However, the report suggests buyers should expect higher prices than the current lineup.

The continuation of the CT5 also contrasts with Cadillac’s earlier decision to discontinue the smaller CT4 in North America, making the CT5 an increasingly important part of the brand’s future performance portfolio.
