Toyota has announced a $1.34 billion investment to build a new production plant for fully electrified vehicles in Argentina. The project is expected to strengthen the country’s automotive industry, create new jobs and accelerate the transition towards cleaner mobility across Latin America. It is being described as the largest single investment ever made in Argentina’s automotive sector.

The investment underlines Toyota’s long-term confidence in Argentina despite global economic uncertainty. The new facility will focus on manufacturing a fully electrified vehicle, expanding Toyota’s growing portfolio of low-emission models. It also reinforces the company’s global strategy of increasing electrified vehicle production while reducing carbon emissions.

Argentina’s Economy Minister, Luis Caputo, announced the investment, saying it represents a major milestone for the country’s manufacturing industry. The project is expected to attract additional investment across the automotive supply chain, supporting parts manufacturers, logistics companies and technology providers. Industry experts believe it could help strengthen Argentina’s position as one of Latin America’s leading vehicle production hubs.

Although Toyota has not yet disclosed production capacity or employment figures, investments of this scale typically generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs during construction and vehicle manufacturing. The development is also expected to boost exports and improve Argentina’s industrial competitiveness at a time when demand for electrified vehicles continues to rise worldwide.

Toyota has maintained a strong manufacturing presence in Argentina for decades. The company already operates one of the country’s largest vehicle production facilities, supplying vehicles to several export markets across Latin America. The latest investment demonstrates Toyota’s commitment to expanding its regional footprint while preparing for the next generation of mobility solutions.

The announcement comes as global automakers increase spending on electrification to meet stricter emissions regulations and changing consumer demand. Governments and manufacturers are investing billions of dollars in electric and hybrid technologies as the industry shifts away from traditional petrol and diesel vehicles. Toyota’s latest move positions Argentina to play a more significant role in that global transformation.
