A driver in Nashville thought he had made a smart move. He used his Tesla Cybertruck to work long hours on Lyft. In just one year, he drove 100,000 miles. Riders loved the space, the smooth ride, and the futuristic feel.

But then came the surprise, a repair bill of more than $7,200.

EV Ownership Costs Rise with Heavy Use

The driver shared his story online. He said he got his 2024 Cybertruck early and quickly turned it into a full-time rideshare vehicle. Long shifts, often over seven hours, helped him rack up miles fast.

At first, costs seemed normal. Tires were replaced with new Michelin Defender Platinum LTX sets for $2,500, that was expected. But the real issue came from a key part: the Power Conversion System (PCS).

High Repair Costs Outside EV Warranty Coverage

The driver had to replace the system from Rev E to Rev F for over $7,200.  He said the problem was simple: he was outside the EV Warranty Coverage. “Tesla shows no mercy when you’re outside your warranty,” he wrote.

This highlights a growing concern for drivers using electric cars for business.

Fleet Management Risks in Rideshare Operations

For many drivers, EVs promise lower fuel costs and better comfort but heavy use can bring new risks. In this case, Electric Vehicle Maintenance Cost became the biggest issue.

Driving 100,000 miles in one year is far above normal use. For rideshare drivers, that level of wear can quickly push vehicles out of warranty, that leaves owners to cover expensive repairs on their own.

The Bigger Picture for EV Adoption

Tesla has been growing fast. The company now focuses on new tech like self-driving and robotaxis but stories like this raise questions. For drivers thinking about Fleet Management / Rideshare Operations, the math may not always be simple. EVs can save money but only if repair costs stay low.
