In 2024, UK drivers looking for reliable cars have seven standout options, according to the latest What Car? reliability survey. Conducted with MotorEasy and based on responses from nearly 30,000 drivers, the survey reveals which models keep owners away from the repair shop and on the road.
With top marks for durability, these cars promise UK buyers dependable performance, low maintenance costs, and fewer breakdowns, making them the best choices for stress-free driving this year.
Here are the top seven models, each highly rated for delivering a dependable, stress-free driving experience.
Lexus NX (2014-2021) and Toyota Aygo X (2021-present):
They both achieved an impeccable reliability rating of 100%.
Lexus NX, favored by families, maintained its position as the most reliable family SUV for two consecutive years, with no reported faults this year.
For those on a budget, Toyota’s Aygo X – a compact, affordable model – tied for first place, with zero glitches reported by owners over the past two years.
Both models offer peace of mind, either as a family workhorse or as a small, cost-efficient city car.
Mini Countryman (2017-2024)
In third place, Mini Countryman (2017-2024) earned a near-perfect rating of 99.7%, making it the UK’s most reliable small SUV. As the top-rated model from Mini, which surpassed Lexus in brand reliability rankings this year, the Countryman saw minimal issues, with only 2% of owners reporting minor bodywork concerns. Its high satisfaction ratings underscore Mini’s commitment to quality and ease of ownership.
Audi Q2 (2016-present)
Close behind, the Audi Q2 (2016-present) achieved a 99.5% reliability rating. This small SUV also topped other Audi models, with only 3% of owners experiencing issues, mainly engine-related, but with all repairs covered and completed at no cost. Its dependability makes it a solid choice for buyers looking for a luxury feel without frequent trips to the mechanic.
Kia Picanto (2017-2024)
The Kia Picanto (2017-2024) also scored highly, with a 99.3% reliability rating. Lexus ES (2018-present) and Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman (2016-present):
These cars round out the top list, both earning a 99.3% reliability rating.
