Private jet travel in the U.S. has reached new heights in 2024, driven by soaring demand from high-net-worth individuals and business executives. The convenience of skipping long security lines and avoiding commercial flight delays has made private aviation more appealing than ever.

Private Jet Travel Surges as Ultra-Wealthy Avoid Airline Chaos

The expansion of jet card memberships and charter club programs has fueled the boom, making private travel more accessible to an elite class. Even major airlines like Delta Air Lines, which acquired a majority stake in Wheels Up, are betting big on private aviation

With private jet traffic climbing, a handful of airports are emerging as the busiest hubs. Here’s a look at the top five private jet airports in the U.S. in 2024, ranked by total flight operations.

1. Teterboro Airport (TEB) – New York’s Elite Gateway

2024 Private Jet Flights: 74,832 (+0.3%)

Teterboro remains the go-to airport for private jet travelers in the New York area. Located just 12 miles from Manhattan, it serves executives, celebrities, and hedge fund managers avoiding the congestion at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey owns Teterboro, while private firm AFCO AvPORTS operates it. Strict weight limits (100,000 lbs) prevent commercial airlines from using the facility, solidifying its dominance in private aviation. With 90 acres of hangars and a workforce exceeding 1,000, Teterboro is America’s busiest private jet airport.

2. Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) – Florida’s Wealth Magnet

2024 Private Jet Flights: 41,967 (-1.8%)

Despite a slight dip in traffic, Palm Beach International remains a favorite among the ultra-rich. Nestled between West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Jupiter, it serves some of the wealthiest individuals in the U.S.

PBI benefits from direct highway access via I-95, making it an effortless gateway to Florida’s luxury estates and high-end resorts. Private jet activity remains strong, especially during winter months when snowbirds and high-profile figures flood the region.

3. Dallas Love Field (DAL) – The Texas Power Hub

2024 Private Jet Flights: 40,332 (+1.7%)

As Dallas’ economy surges, so does its private aviation sector. Love Field has solidified itself as a hub for corporate executives and high-net-worth individuals traveling to and from Texas’ booming business hubs.

The airport is managed by the Dallas Department of Aviation, with multiple full-service FBOs (Fixed-Base Operators) catering to private jet travelers. Despite being Southwest Airlines’ primary hub, Love Field has seen a steady rise in private jet operations.

4. Westchester County Airport (HPN) – The Rising Star

2024 Private Jet Flights: 32,994 (+0.3%)

Westchester County Airport has quickly become the premier private jet gateway for New York’s affluent suburbs. Located just 33 miles from Midtown Manhattan, it offers an alternative to Teterboro for travelers from Greenwich, CT, and Westchester County.

5. Van Nuys Airport (VNY) – Hollywood’s Private Runway

2024 Private Jet Flights: 32,229 (-3.0%)

Los Angeles’ Van Nuys Airport remains a major player despite a 3% drop in traffic. The airport is a favorite among A-list celebrities, studio executives, and tech billionaires, offering unmatched privacy away from the chaos of LAX.

While private jet movements declined, industry experts see it as a temporary dip. “The demand for luxury air travel in LA isn’t going anywhere,” said Doug Gollan, Editor-in-Chief of Private Jet Card Comparisons.
