JLR has unveiled the prototype of the new Range Rover GT, introducing what it describes as the fifth member of the Range Rover family and taking one of the biggest design departures in the brand’s history.

Rather than following the traditional SUV formula, the electric vehicle combines the appearance of a fastback sedan with Range Rover styling, creating a new interpretation of a luxury crossover.

“The GT stretches the definition of an SUV coupe,” JLR said, positioning the vehicle as an expansion of the Range Rover lineup rather than a replacement for any existing model.

Electric Vehicle Architecture Signals Future Direction

The prototype will ride on JLR’s new EMA architecture and will launch with an electric powertrain. While the company has not disclosed battery capacity, driving range or power output, it has confirmed the vehicle will be fully electric.

JLR also has not ruled out adding a hybrid version in the future.

Although specifications remain limited, the company said more details will be released later this year, with the production model expected to debut in early 2027.

Interior Focuses on Sustainable Materials

Inside, the GT moves away from the traditional Range Rover cabin with a minimalist layout featuring fewer physical controls.

The interior replaces conventional leather and wood trim with sustainable materials, while digital displays are intentionally kept modest compared with many vehicles introduced in 2026. Drivers receive a slim instrument cluster, a central infotainment screen and a standard head-up display.

Passenger space remains generous despite the vehicle’s lower profile, helped by a panoramic glass roof extending across the cabin.

New Direction for the Luxury Automotive Brand

The GT’s long, low silhouette gives it proportions closer to a sedan than an SUV while maintaining signature Range Rover styling cues.

JLR said the model represents the fifth member of the Range Rover family, signaling the company’s continued expansion into the growing luxury EV market as premium automakers invest in electric mobility and new vehicle designs.

The company has yet to announce pricing or market availability but said further information will be shared later this year ahead of a full reveal in early 2027.
