A 30-metre luxury motor yacht has been destroyed after running aground and sinking off the coast of southern Greece, as violent storms swept across the region, authorities said on Thursday.
The 30.13-metre Ferretti motor yacht H And Co was grounded near the cape of Agia Marina, off Elafonisos, on Wednesday afternoon amid strong south-westerly winds and heavy rainfall.
According to Greek media reports, the vessel was carrying four Greek nationals when it struck the shoreline during seven to eight Beaufort winds, accompanied by lightning and storms.
Emergency Response and Rescue Operation
Vessels from the Hellenic Coast Guard, nearby private craft, and passing ships responded to the incident. A Super Puma helicopter from the Greek Air Force was also deployed.
All four individuals onboard were airlifted to the General Hospital of Molaoi for medical checks and were reported to be in good health.
Fuel Load and Environmental Risk
Authorities confirmed the yacht was carrying approximately six tonnes of fuel, raising immediate concerns over marine environmental liability. However, officials said no pollution has been detected and that water ingress remains under control.
The vessel remains at the grounding site while efforts continue to secure or remove the wreck, with superyacht salvage operations expected to play a key role in the next phase.
Vessel Background and Investigation
Launched in 2022, H And Co was built by Ferretti Yachts, with exterior styling by Filippo Salvetti and interior design by ideaeITALIA. The yacht measures 149 gross tonnes and accommodates up to 10 guests in five staterooms.
A maritime accident investigation is expected to examine the circumstances of the grounding, including weather conditions, navigational decisions, and safety protocols.
