Hyundai Motor America is recalling 94,622 vehicles in the United States because the front power seat motors might overheat and catch fire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the safety recall on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Drivers face this serious fire hazard whether their vehicles are parked or actively being driven on the road.

Safety regulators stated that the front seat motors can overheat due to a stuck control switch. Because of this danger, the auto safety regulator has given urgent instructions to affected car owners. NHTSA said Hyundai has advised owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until repairs are completed.

Vehicle Safety Recall and Affected Genesis Models

The large-scale recall impacts several years of premium sedans. The affected vehicles include certain 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis models. It also includes 2017-2020 Genesis G80 luxury models.
The defective parts come from an outside auto parts vendor. The recalled vehicles use front power-seat control switches supplied by Nidec Mobility Korea Corporation.
At this time, automotive service technicians do not have a fix ready for the dangerous defect. The federal safety regulator noted that the recall remedy is currently being developed by the manufacturer.

Automotive Product Liability and Fire Incidents

While the total number of recalled cars is high, the carmaker believes the actual defect rate is low. Hyundai estimates that about 1% of the 94,622 affected vehicles may have the defect.
However, real-world fires have already been linked to the issue. The company is aware of two alleged US fire incidents associated with the defect. Hyundai reported no related crashes or injuries as of October 1, 2026.

Drivers are waiting for official notice on when they can bring their cars to a local dealership for free repairs. Until the final remedy is ready, owners must continue to park their luxury vehicles outside to protect their homes and property from potential fire damage.
