China as a Conduit for Sanctioned Cars
Tens of thousands of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Toyota vehicles are entering Russia through China, circumventing Western and Asian automotive sanctions, Reuters found. Autostat data show that nearly half of the 130,000 foreign-brand cars sold in Russia in 2025 were Chinese-made or routed via Chinese intermediaries.
