As the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 finals loom large, with England set to clash against Spain, fans from both nations are eagerly searching for affordable flight options to make it to the historic event in Sydney, Australia. The finals are scheduled for August 20th at Sydney’s Stadium Australia, and the demand for flights is soaring.

In light of the impending Sunday showdown, securing reasonably priced and convenient flights from England and Spain to Sydney has proven to be quite a challenge. Nevertheless, there are several flight options available, offering different choices to fans who are determined to witness the thrilling match.

The flight search was conducted through kiwi.com, and while time remains of the essence, flights were chosen based on specific criteria. These include all airports within the respective countries, a maximum of two stops, and a disregard for the need to collect and re-check baggage during layovers. Layover duration was not restricted, aiming to find the most economical and convenient options.

Travelling from London to Sydney

For those departing on August 17th, one of the most affordable options is flying with Vietnam Airlines via VN 56 from London Heathrow Airport. Departing at 17:05, the flight arrives at Nội Bài International Airport the following day at 11:05. After a lengthy layover, passengers will board flight VN 787, departing at 23:40, and land in Sydney on August 19th at 12:15, all for €828 ($901).

In the event this deal is no longer available, the next viable choice is a 23-hour journey from London Heathrow Airport with Thai Airways for €989 ($1,078). Departing at 12:30, flight TG 911 arrives in Bangkok at around 06:00 the next day on August 18th. Following a brief layover, flight TG 475 departs at 08:30, reaching Sydney on the same day at 20:30.

Another option involves Air New Zealand flight NZ 4161, operated by Virgin Atlantic Airways. Departing from London Heathrow Airport at 12:10, it lands at San Francisco International Airport at 15:10. After an almost eight-hour layover, passengers board Air New Zealand flight NZ 9863, operated by United Airlines, departing at 22:55 before arriving in Sydney two days later on August 19th at 07:00, all for €973 ($1,059).

While there’s a more direct flight available from London Heathrow Airport to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, it’s relatively pricier but incredibly convenient. For €1,293 ($1,409), passengers can opt for Qantas flight QF 2 departing at 20:55, followed by a two-hour layover at Singapore’s Changi International Airport, before finally reaching Sydney on August 19th at 05:10.

Flying from Spain to Sydney

For travellers departing from Spain, one affordable choice is Air China flight CA 846. Departing from Barcelona-El Prat Airport at 12:10, the flight arrives at Beijing Capital International Airport at 05:35 on August 18th. After a nearly 20-hour layover, passengers can continue their journey on Air China flight CA 173, arriving in Sydney around 14:50 the same day for €944 ($1,028).

A similar itinerary is available from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. Departing at 13:10 via flight CA 908, passengers arrive in Beijing Capital at around 05:55. The layover timings remain consistent, and the same flight transports passengers to Sydney. Tickets for this itinerary are available for €948 ($1,032).

For those who prefer shorter layovers and are willing to pay a bit more, Qatar Airways flight QR 138 offers an option departing from Barcelona at 09:30 and reaching Doha Hamad International Airport around 16:40. With less than four hours of layover, passengers continue with flight QR 908 departing at 20:10 and landing in Sydney on August 18th at 17:20, all for €1,150 ($1,702).

In the rush of last-minute flight bookings, these options present enticing opportunities for fans to witness the historic match. Though some flights come with extended layovers, potentially leading to additional expenses for lounges or airport hotels, the chance to witness the event live in Sydney might make it all worthwhile.
