Boeing, a prominent aerospace company, has in a heartfelt response to the ongoing wildfire crisis in Maui, announced a substantial contribution of $500,000 to support disaster recovery and relief efforts. The Hawaiian island has been grappling with a severe outbreak of deadly wildfires that have claimed at least 96 lives, prompting various entities to come together to provide aid.

Over the last five years, the company has dedicated more than $750,000 to various causes in Hawaii, fostering strong ties with local communities. On a global scale, in 2022 alone, Boeing extended its support by donating over $6 million towards disaster relief and humanitarian initiatives worldwide.

Ziad Ojakli, Executive Vice President of Government Operations at Boeing, expressed the company’s condolences and solidarity with the people of Hawaii during this challenging time. Ojakli said, “The Boeing family sends our deepest condolences to the people of Hawaii in the wake of the tragic wildfires there. Through support to our nonprofit partners on the ground, we will help affected Maui residents meet their most immediate needs and assist with this beautiful community’s rebuilding.”

Of the $500,000 donation, half, amounting to $250,000, has been directed to the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organisation playing a critical role in providing essential aid, including shelter, meals, and resources for those who have been displaced or have suffered damage to their homes. Anne McKeough, Chief Development Officer at the American Red Cross, expressed gratitude for Boeing’s contribution, emphasizing the collaborative effort to provide support and hope to affected communities.

The remaining $250,000 has been allocated to the Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund. This fund is dedicated to swift response and recovery initiatives, encompassing shelter, sustenance, grief support, and more for communities across the island. Micah Kāne, Chief Executive Officer of the Hawai’i Community Foundation, extended his appreciation to Boeing and other donors, highlighting the exceptional level of generosity witnessed in recent days.

As the wildfire crisis continues to unfold, numerous airlines and companies have stepped up to assist those impacted. Hawaiian Airlines, in particular, has played a pivotal role in evacuating people from the island, transporting over 12,500 individuals to safety. The airline’s efforts have included offering main cabin seats from Kahului Airport to Honolulu for a mere $19, enabling a larger number of people to depart quickly.

American Airlines has also contributed to relief efforts by increasing flight capacity and providing larger aircraft to accommodate more travellers, ensuring their swift departure from the island. Similarly, Delta Air Lines, recognising the urgency of the situation, announced a substantial contribution of $250,000 to the American Red Cross, reinforcing the collective determination to provide aid across the island.
