Nigeria is making a fresh push to revive its struggling automotive industry. The Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) are teaming up to promote local production and attract global investors.

VON’s Director General, Mallam Jibril Baba Ndace, said the collaboration would spotlight Nigeria’s auto sector on the global stage. Through VON’s eight-language broadcast network, the achievements of NADDC will reach over 10 million people worldwide. “We are bringing back our shortwave transmitter to ensure Africa and the world hear Nigeria’s automotive story,” Ndace said during a courtesy visit to NADDC’s Director General, Olawemimo Joseph Osanipin, in Abuja.

Osanipin emphasised the importance of local component production in driving industry growth. “If we achieve self-sufficiency in auto parts manufacturing, big carmakers will invest in Nigeria,” he said. He urged Nigerians to support locally made vehicle components, highlighting that Nigerian-made brake pads last up to 15,000 kilometers—almost four times longer than some imported alternatives.

NADDC’s push for local manufacturing aligns with Nigeria’s broader industrialization strategy. The agency aims to create jobs, reduce reliance on imports, and position Nigeria as a key player in Africa’s automotive market.
