Uber, the ride-sharing company, has announced that it will soon offer domestic and international flight bookings in the UK. The feature will be gradually rolled out across the country in the coming weeks. This latest move is part of Uber’s plans to become a comprehensive travel “super app” that enables users to book multiple forms of transport.
The new flight-booking function will allow customers to book a complete journey from door-to-door, in addition to the ride-sharing service that Uber is best known for. The company has also partnered with Hopper, an online travel agent, to enable users to book flights. Uber will receive a small commission from each sale made through the app.
The flight-booking feature will sit alongside Uber’s existing ability to book coach tickets on National Express and Megabus, as well as train journeys across the National Rail network and on Eurostar.
Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK, stated that the new functionality will make the booking and managing of air travel simple and stress-free, with the booking process taking as little as one minute.
“To book a flight through the new feature, users will need to enter their travel details, including the departure and destination airports and travel dates, Brem said. “Users will be able to select one-way and return flights and can even choose their preferred seats if flying with a major airline.”
“This new feature is part of Uber’s ambition to create a seamless, door-to-door travel solution for its users,” Brem said.
