Lucid Motors, a California-based EV maker, has set a new Guinness World Record by driving 747 miles on a single charge—the longest ever by a production EV.
The record-breaking journey was completed by the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which cruised from St. Moritz, Switzerland, to Munich, Germany, crossing mountain roads, secondary routes, and highways. It beats the previous record of 649 miles set by the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ just last month in Japan.
This achievement not only underlines Lucid’s technological leap in battery management and efficiency but also sets a new standard for what electric vehicles are capable of.
“This range record represents a milestone; it’s a clear demonstration of the technological edge that defines Lucid,” said Eric Bach, Lucid’s SVP of Product and Chief Engineer.
Lucid collaborated with Umit Sabanci, a London-based EV endurance driver known for holding the Guinness title for most countries visited on a single charge. Sabanci previously crossed nine countries in a Lucid Air and consulted on the record attempt, helping optimize driving strategy and energy efficiency.
Although Lucid’s Air Grand Touring carries an EPA-rated range of 516 miles, the team managed to extend it by over 230 miles under real-world driving conditions, a feat that could redefine range anxiety for EV owners.
“Electric mobility isn’t just the future,” said Sabanci, “it’s already redefining what’s possible today.”
Covering 747 miles, roughly the distance between New York City and Columbia, South Carolina, or San Diego and the Oregon border, without charging is a moment in EV innovation. And while the official statement doesn’t confirm if the car was modified, the run demonstrates that world-class engineering and optimised driving can push boundaries once thought unreachable.
