The BMW Group reported a 1.5% decrease in global vehicle sales during the first quarter of 2023, with a total of 588,138 vehicle sales worldwide.
However, the company still expects sales to increase slightly by the end of 2023. While sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) decreased, sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased, resulting in an overall 23% increase in rechargeable car sales, with BEVs accounting for 11% of the total volume.
In 2022, BMW sold 433,795 plug-in electric cars, up 32% from the previous year, with BEVs representing 9% and PHEVs 9.1% of total sales.
BMW plans to introduce several new fully-electric models, with the goal of having at least one in five new vehicles being fully electric by 2024.
