Chinese carmaker Avatr has unveiled the 06T, a sleek electric wagon aimed at challenging models such as the Tesla Model 3. The new vehicle was revealed ahead of its expected launch in China later this year.

The 06T is a shooting brake version of Avatr’s 06 saloon. It features a longer roofline, added luggage space and a sportier stance. Roof rails and a reshaped rear improve practicality without sacrificing aerodynamics.

Inside, the focus is firmly on technology. A sweeping 35.4-inch display stretches across the dashboard, paired with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. Both run on HarmonyOS, developed by Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Rear passengers benefit from improved headroom thanks to the extended roofline. The boot space is also expected to increase significantly over the saloon version, making it more suitable for families and long-distance drivers.

Performance figures are striking. Buyers can choose a fully electric variant producing up to 590 horsepower. Alternatively, a range-extended model is claimed to travel up to 777 miles on a full charge and fuel combination, according to industry reports.

The 06T will also debut Huawei’s next-generation lidar sensor. Paired with the Qiankun ADS 4.0 driver assistance system, detection range is said to improve by around 20%. This could enhance safety and semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

The announcement comes as global competition in the electric vehicle market intensifies. Carmakers such as Volvo are pushing efficiency boundaries with models like the Volvo EX60, while Volkswagen has teased more affordable options, including the Volkswagen ID. Polo.

For consumers, the shift to electric brings tangible savings. EV drivers typically benefit from lower fuel costs and reduced maintenance bills. They also produce zero tailpipe emissions, helping cut urban air pollution.

Home charging can further reduce running costs. Drivers who install rooftop solar panels may save hundreds of pounds or dollars each year compared with relying solely on public charging networks.

Online reaction to the 06T has been cautiously optimistic. One commenter wrote: “I wish they weren’t so big. But I’m excited about their return.”

With strong performance figures and advanced technology, the Avatr 06T could become a serious contender in the fast-growing electric estate market.
