While critics of EVs often highlight concerns over battery mining, studies show the clean energy transition’s footprint is minuscule compared to fossil fuel extraction. Global fossil fuel extraction reaches 18.2 billion tons annually, while EV-related minerals account for roughly 33 million tons — a fraction of the impact.

Once on the road, EVs quickly offset their manufacturing emissions. A Reuters analysis found that a Tesla Model 3 surpasses the efficiency of a Toyota Corolla after just 13,500 miles.
