Nigerian motorists have been given more time to apply for tinted glass permits as the police push back enforcement to October 2, 2025.

The extension, announced by Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, comes after a surge in applications through the official portal, possap.gov.ng, showing rising public compliance.

“We want to make sure every application is carefully checked,” said Force spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. “Only eligible and qualified individuals will get the permit, in line with national security needs.”

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said the extra 51 days will allow more time to fine-tune digital and physical verification systems. This, it said, is key to stopping fake permits and preventing abuse.

Motorists are urged to apply online using their Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN), and Tax Identification Number (TIN). The process includes filling in vehicle details, uploading documents, paying online, and undergoing inspection and biometric capture.

The move follows public complaints about harassment over tinted windows, including factory-fitted ones. The NPF reminded Nigerians to report any extortion or hidden charges through its hotline 0814 781 8871.

“Our goal is to balance public convenience with security for all,” Adejobi said.
