In a move that blends practicality with luxury, Cadillac has added an intercom system to its latest all-electric SUV, the Escalade IQ, to make in-car conversations easier. With an estimated 460-mile electric range and 24-inch wheels, this mammoth vehicle stretches the limits of conventional car design, so much so that Cadillac saw the need to help passengers communicate across its vast interior.

The feature, dubbed “Conversation Enhancement”, uses built-in microphones and the vehicle’s speaker system to transmit voices between rows. This isn’t just for show, it’s a genuine response to a problem. Whether it’s parents trying to speak with kids in the back, passengers wanting to chat with the driver, or friends coordinating plans during a road trip, Cadillac’s solution removes the need for raised voices inside its ultra-quiet EV.

Available not only on the Escalade IQ but also on Cadillac’s Celestiq and Vistiq models, the system is integrated with either 38- or 42-speaker sound setups. Rear microphones send audio to the front seats, where the driver and front passenger can hear clearly, especially useful when road or music noise might interfere. For those who prefer silence, second-row passengers can choose to switch their microphones off, preserving privacy.

The innovation underscores how luxury carmakers are rethinking soundscapes in electric vehicles. With the absence of an internal combustion engine, the EV cabin is inherently quieter. Cadillac’s focus now shifts to curating what passengers do hear, from noise cancellation to personalized audio zones. The Escalade IQ is less a traditional SUV and more of a rolling lounge or mobile boardroom, tailored for both family comfort and high-end business travel.
