Porsche has adopted Mixed Reality (MR) to revolutionise product presentations and technical briefings. The recent Technology Workshop, focusing on the all-electric Macan, unveiled this futuristic approach, signalling a departure from conventional methods for the luxury automaker.

Farewell to static displays: Engineers and journalists dive into virtual reality

The workshop unfolded like scenes from a sci-fi movie, where engineers and journalists, donning Meta Quest 3 headsets, immersed themselves in a 3D environment. A bold move at the intersection of technology and automotive innovation and departure from traditional media events, this immersive experience allows participants to interact with virtual elements, marking a significant leap from passive observation of static presentations.

Porsche’s Evolution: From Taycan AR App to cutting-edge MR technology

The journey into immersive technology started with the Taycan AR Event App, introducing augmented reality (AR) for exploring the car’s engineering using an iPhone. Fast forward to the present, Porsche’s embrace of MR technology now enables users to navigate virtual environments, interact with objects, and connect with global participants. This transformative shift has redefined the boundaries of automotive presentations.

MR unleashes possibilities: Blending virtual and real-world experiences

Unlike virtual reality (VR), MR integrates virtual elements seamlessly with the real world. With pass-through viewing on headsets, users can perceive their surroundings, offering a grounded experience that goes beyond the limitations of VR. The flexibility of 3D models in MR allows viewers to explore various angles, providing a deeper understanding of the presented content. A Porsche engineer noted, “The storyline of the content works like a traditional presentation – you’re standing within the presentation, surrounded by it.”
