SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, and Vast, a pioneering company specializing in space habitation technologies, have joined forces to embark on an ambitious endeavor. Their shared objective is to establish the world’s inaugural commercial space station by August 2025.

The commercial space station, named Haven-1, will be deployed into low-Earth orbit employing SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. This independent facility will have its own crew and is designed to be linked with a larger station currently under development by Vast.

To kickstart their mission, the two companies have devised a plan called Vast-1. It entails launching the first human occupants to the space station utilizing SpaceX’s Dragon rocket. A four-person crew will be stationed on Haven-1 for a duration of up to 30 days, orbiting Earth before safely returning home.

As part of their collaboration, Vast and SpaceX are also considering the possibility of future human spaceflights to Haven-1. These forthcoming endeavors represent the initial strides taken by Vast, and according to its CEO Jed McCaleb, they serve as precursors to the company’s grander aspirations of constructing larger artificial gravity space stations in Earth’s orbit and even beyond.
