The VW Polo Vivo has emerged as South Africa’s top-selling car in November, according to Naamsa’s sales figures. The compact hatchback sold 2,999 units, narrowly outpacing the Toyota Hilux, which recorded 2,702 sales. This marks the first time since May 2023 that the Hilux has lost its top spot, reflecting shifting consumer preferences and tighter household budgets.
Toyota retained dominance in other categories, with the Corolla Cross securing third place with 2,655 units sold. Ford’s Ranger bakkie followed closely in fourth with 2,248 sales, while Suzuki’s Swift rounded out the top five with 1,776 units.
Compact SUVs saw fierce competition, as the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (1,191 units) edged out the Haval Jolion (1,062 units) for ninth place. Hyundai’s Grand i10 (1,296 units) and Toyota’s Starlet (1,238 units) filled seventh and eighth places, respectively.
Collectively, South Africa’s top 10 best-selling cars accounted for over 27,000 sales, nearly 56% of November’s total new vehicle transactions.
