Tesla Inc. plans to raise prices across its entire vehicle lineup in Canada starting February 1, according to its website. The price hike will see Model 3 cars increase by up to C$9,000 ($6,255), while Model Y variants will cost as much as C$4,000 more. Model S and Model X prices will also rise by C$4,000 each.
The move comes as Tesla continues to import cars into Canada from factories in the United States and Shanghai, China. Canada’s existing 100% tariff on electric vehicles from China, including Tesla’s Shanghai-made models, further complicates affordability for buyers.
Tesla provided no explanation for the increase, leaving prospective buyers uncertain amid an already volatile EV market. The hike coincides with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s reaffirmation of readiness to counter potential U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports, which could also impact the automotive sector.
For Canadian buyers considering a Tesla, the higher prices add urgency to finalise purchases before February 1. Industry experts suggest the hike reflects increased production and import costs, but Tesla has yet to comment.
