Thousands of American families may be unknowingly riding in vehicles with faulty airbags, as Stellantis recalls more than 250,000 Chrysler Minivans over a potentially life-threatening defect.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed that 250,651 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager vehicles from model years 2022 to 2025 are being recalled. The issue? Improperly sealed side curtain airbags, which may fail to deploy correctly during a crash.

“These airbags could lose pressure, increasing the risk of ejection and serious injury in an accident,” the NHTSA stated in its recall bulletin.

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries so far. However, it is urging customers to take the recall seriously and follow the instructions included in their notification letters.

“We are acting out of an abundance of caution,” the automaker said in a statement. “All inspections and airbag replacements will be handled at no cost to our customers.”

The affected vehicles, largely used by families, ride-share services, and community groups,  show how critical airbag safety remains in modern vehicles. With summer travel peaking, consumer groups are urging Stellantis owners to visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or contact dealers immediately to check if their vehicle is affected.
