Boeing has crossed a major milestone after reporting a record $715.3 billion backlog at the end of the second quarter of 2026, highlighting continued demand for its commercial aircraft even as the aerospace giant remained in an operating loss.

The company said its backlog exceeded the $700 billion mark for the first time, with commercial aircraft accounting for $596.7 billion, or more than 83% of the total. The commercial backlog also grew 5% compared with the end of 2025 and now includes more than 6,200 aircraft, providing Boeing with years of production work ahead.

“Our operations are more stable and key certification programs remain on plan,” Boeing President and Chief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg said while commenting on the company’s second-quarter performance.

Commercial Aircraft Deliveries Continue to Rise

Boeing also reported stronger aircraft deliveries during the April-to-June period.

The manufacturer delivered 171 commercial aircraft in the second quarter, up 14% from 150 aircraft delivered during the same period in 2025.

For the first half of 2026, Boeing delivered 314 aircraft, representing a 12% increase compared with 280 deliveries in the first half of last year.

The Boeing 737 family remained the company’s biggest delivery driver, accounting for 129 aircraft, followed by 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, 10 Boeing 767s and seven Boeing 777s.

The company’s Defense, Space & Security business delivered 35 military aircraft, including helicopters, fighter jets, tankers and a patrol aircraft.

Revenue Improves While Losses Narrow

Boeing’s commercial aircraft business generated $11.71 billion in revenue during the quarter, an 8% increase from $10.874 billion a year earlier.

Despite the higher revenue, the company still posted an operating loss. However, the loss narrowed to $322 million, compared with $557 million in the second quarter of 2025.

Its operating margin also improved to -2.7%, from -5.1% a year earlier.

Strong Farnborough Orders Could Boost Q3

Boeing’s momentum could continue into the third quarter following several aircraft agreements announced during the Farnborough International Airshow.

Among the announced deals were Riyadh Air’s confirmation of 28 additional Boeing 787 aircraft, Philippine Airlines’ order for 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners with options for five more, AerCap’s commitment for 15 Boeing 787-9s, and SMBC’s agreement for 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The growing order pipeline further strengthens Boeing’s long-term production outlook as the manufacturer continues executing its recovery strategy.
