Louis Vuitton has docked what may be the world’s most opulent flagship in central Shanghai, a boutique designed as a life-sized cruise ship. Officially named The Louis, the store spans over 1,200 square metres across three luxurious floors within the Taikoo Hui complex on Nanjing West Road.
Wrapped in the iconic LV monogram, the ship-like structure features ten themed rooms including a “Perfume Room,” “Sports Room,” and “Book Room,” each celebrating Louis Vuitton’s connection to travel, heritage, and innovation. Guests are invited to journey through the Louis Vuitton Extraordinary Journey exhibition, which explores maritime culture and the maison’s 19th-century roots in crafting elegant travel trunks.
The opening event on June 27 was a spectacle in itself, a 24-hour celebration that started at midnight and echoed Shanghai’s status as a global trendsetter. “This ship-shaped decoration echoes Shanghai’s urban spirit of embracing all rivers and seas,” said Wu Yue, president of LVMH Greater China.
True to cruise form, the boutique also features Le Café Louis Vuitton, offering a fusion of Shanghai and Western flavours on its foredeck. From Singapore’s floating Island Maison to Chengdu’s prowling tiger-tail façade, LV’s latest masterpiece confirms its belief that travel is not just a motif, it’s the experience.
