Ford South Africa achieved a double milestone in November 2024, breaking export records for its Ranger pickup while posting its highest domestic sales since June 2021.
The company exported 10,574 Rangers to European markets, the highest monthly figure since production of the current-generation model began in December 2022. The achievement comes amid a challenging year for South Africa’s automotive sector, which has faced slowing demand in Europe due to high inflation and economic stagnation. Exports remain critical, as 80% of cars built in South Africa are destined for international markets.
“This milestone not only highlights the resilience of Ford South Africa but also signals a potential turnaround for the industry,” said Andrew Brough, Managing Director of Ford South Africa. “Strong export performance is vital for sustaining jobs and operations in our automotive sector.”
Domestically, Ford sold 3,071 vehicles in November, marking its best month in over three years. The Ranger remained the star performer, accounting for 2,248 units and securing a 24.9% share of the light commercial vehicle market.
“The positive sales figures show renewed consumer confidence in South Africa’s car market, which is a welcome sign for economic recovery,” Brough added.
Other models driving Ford’s local success include the Territory SUV, with 326 units sold, the Everest (282 units), and the new Mustang GT, which moved 65 units despite its premium price tag.
Ford’s performance secured its spot as South Africa’s fourth-best-selling car brand for the month. The results reflect rising demand for reliable commercial vehicles like the Ranger, which remains South Africa’s best-selling double-cab pickup.
