The all-electric Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype has achieved a stunning victory at Germany’s Nürburgring, setting a new lap record for four-door electric vehicles and outpacing both the Rimac Nevera and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.

For drivers and EV enthusiasts, the breakthrough proves that high-performance, four-door EVs are entering a new era. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, boasting 1,527 horsepower, completed the Nürburgring’s 12.9-mile Nordschleife in just 6:46.874, a significant improvement over the previous records set by Rimac and Porsche, which recorded lap times of 7:05.298 and 7:07.55, respectively.

The feat is a considerable achievement for Xiaomi, a new player in the electric vehicle market, and signals China’s growing influence in high-performance EV manufacturing. This latest record highlights not only Xiaomi’s ambition to redefine speed in electric vehicles but also the potential of advanced, track-ready electric cars from China to rival Western automakers. The upcoming production model, set for release in 2025, will feature the same tri-motor system and enhanced cooling technology, promising similar performance and durability for everyday drivers.

The record-breaking attempt nearly didn’t happen due to two days of challenging weather at the Nürburgring. With damp conditions on the track and a brief power loss mid-lap, driver David Pittard still managed to push the prototype to complete the lap on its first try. Despite the obstacles, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s performance has cemented its place in the annals of EV history, becoming the seventh electric vehicle to earn a spot on the Nürburgring leaderboards.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s achievement places it among the most formidable competitors for speed-focused EVs worldwide. While regulatory hurdles may limit its availability in the United States, the record shows it is ready to take on challengers like Tesla and Lucid in China. As a new rival in the ultra-high-performance segment, Xiaomi is giving Chinese drivers access to world-class performance without waiting for Western imports, raising the stakes in the global EV race.
