President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive for all Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to purchase Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicles. This directive, aimed at ensuring energy security, driving utility, and cutting high fuel costs, underscores the government’s commitment to energy reform.

Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), highlighted the significance of this move, emphasizing that CNG-enabled vehicles produce lower emissions compared to petrol and diesel vehicles. This aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources.

During the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, President Tinubu reiterated the government’s unwavering stance on energy reforms, stating, “This nation will not progress forward if we continue to dance on the same spot.” He emphasized the importance of setting an example as public officials by leading the way in adopting CNG vehicles.

As a demonstration of this commitment, President Tinubu directed the rejection of all memos seeking the purchase of petrol-powered vehicles, instructing the affected council members to procure CNG-powered alternatives. This directive is set to be implemented ahead of Tinubu’s first anniversary in office on May 29th.

The deployment of the first batch of CNG vehicles by the government is expected to serve as a landmark in Nigeria’s journey towards sustainable energy and environmental conservation.
