Under President Chang’s leadership, Hyundai Motor Company announced in 2022 that it aims to introduce 17 EV models and sell 1.87 million units of EVs annually by 2030 worldwide. 1. Electric Vehicles (EVs):
The Hyundai Ioniq Electric is a versatile hatchback that prioritizes efficiency and practicality. With its 38.3 kWh battery, it offers an approximate range of 170 miles (WLTP). Inside, the Ioniq Electric provides a comfortable cabin, an easy-to-use infotainment system, and a range of driver-assistance features. Its regenerative braking system maximizes energy recapture, optimizing both range and efficiency.
The Ioniq Hybrid made its debut in South Korea in January 2016, while all three variants were unveiled at the 2016 Geneva and New York auto shows. Following the hybrid variant’s launch in February 2016, the electric model entered the market in July 2016.
Hyundai Kona Electric:
The Hyundai Kona Electric is a compact SUV that offers impressive all-electric performance. Powered by a 64 kWh battery pack, it provides a range of around 258 miles (WLTP) on a single charge. With its powerful electric motor, the Kona Electric delivers instant torque for quick acceleration.

Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid:
The Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid is a versatile SUV that combines electric and gasoline power. With a 13.8 kWh battery pack, it offers an electric range of around 32 miles (WLTP). When the battery runs out, the Tucson seamlessly switches to its efficient gasoline engine, extending the overall range. This spacious SUV features ample cargo space, advanced safety technologies, and a comfortable ride. The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid was unveiled by Hyundai Motor in the spring of 2021.
Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid:
The Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid, released in February 2017 is a stylish and fuel-efficient compact car designed for everyday commuting. Its 8.9 kWh battery offers an electric range of approximately 32 miles (WLTP). Beyond the electric range, the Ioniq utilizes a highly efficient gasoline engine to extend its overall range. The Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid boasts a well-appointed interior, advanced driver-assistance systems, and impressive fuel economy.
3. Hybrid Vehicles:
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid:
The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a midsize sedan that combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor for enhanced efficiency. Its hybrid powertrain delivers a smooth and quiet driving experience. With its 1.6-liter engine and electric motor, the Sonata Hybrid achieves excellent fuel economy, making it an ideal choice for long-distance commuting. The Sonata Hybrid offers a comfortable ride, advanced safety features, and a spacious interior.
4. Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCVs):
The Hyundai Nexo is an innovative fuel cell vehicle that stands out for its water vapour emissions, making it a true zero-emission option. Powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system, it generates electricity to drive its electric motor. With an impressive range of around 380 miles (WLTP), the Nexo offers long-distance capabilities. Refuelling the Nexo is as convenient as filling up a regular gasoline vehicle.
The Nexo was initially launched in South Korea in March 2018, and it comes with a 10-year or 160,000km warranty on its fuel cell components. South Korean sales have been promising, surpassing 10,000 vehicles by October 2020. In 2018, 727 units were sold, followed by 4,194 units in 2019. As of October 2020, 5,097 units had been sold, highlighting the growing popularity and acceptance of this cutting-edge fuel cell vehicle.
