Volkswagen, one of the world’s biggest vehicle manufacturers, is taking substantial measures to transform the electric car market. The German car brand has unveiled its latest concept car, the ID.2all, a portable city car costing under €25,000 EUR (£22,000 GBP or $26,500 USD).
This is a considerable feat, as many potential car buyers are put off by the premium they have to pay for electric cars compared to traditional internal combustion engine options. With the ID.2all, Volkswagen aims to bring the price further in line with entry-level ICE machines, making it a game-changing option for those looking to buy a small electric car.
“We are transforming the company rapidly and fundamentally – with the clear objective of making Volkswagen a genuine Love Brand. The ID. 2all shows where we want to take the brand,” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. “We want to be close to the customer and offer top technology in combination with fantastic designs. We are implementing the transformation at pace to bring electric mobility to the masses.”
According to Volkswagen, the car is “as spacious as a Golf, as inexpensive as a Polo,” and promises to deliver up to 450km (280 miles) of range using a front-wheel-drive platform, sending 226 PS to the pedal. Inside and out, the ID.2all boasts a clean and sporty design language, backed by technology like Travel Assist, IQ.LIGHT, and Electric Vehicle Route Planner.
These innovations are still in development, but they demonstrate Volkswagen’s dedication to transforming the electric vehicle market. Volkswagen aims that the ID.2all will revolutionise the future of EVs.
“We are transferring the typical Volkswagen virtues to the new world of mobility: top quality and workmanship, outstanding software and digital services with genuine added value,” Imelda Labbé, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. “The focus here is always on the needs and requirements of our customers.”
These advancements are still in development, but they are a sign of Volkswagen’s commitment to revolutionizing the electric car market. With the ID.2all, Volkswagen hopes to change the future of EVs.
Volkswagen will launch the ID. 2all for the European market in 2025 with a starting price of less than 25,000 euros, making it the world’s most affordable car, surpassing the Chevy Bolt EV, which sold for $26,595 in 2023.
