Mercedes-Benz is ushering in a new era of electric vehicles with the introduction of the latest CLA-Class sedan. Revealed on Thursday, the sleek four-door model will be launched exclusively as an EV, offering a glimpse into the brand’s electrified future.

First teased as a concept in 2023, the new CLA marks a significant milestone as the first vehicle built on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. This flexible platform is engineered to support multiple powertrains and will serve as the foundation for upcoming models, including the next-generation GLA and GLB SUVs.

Performance and Range

The 2026 CLA will be available in two initial versions: the 250+ and the 350 4Matic. The CLA 250+ features a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive system generating 268 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the CLA 350 4Matic offers a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup producing 349 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Both models incorporate a two-speed transmission to enhance efficiency. Acceleration figures place the CLA 250+ at 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds, while the CLA 350 4Matic achieves it in just 4.8 seconds, with both models reaching a top speed of 130 mph. A hybrid version is also in the pipeline.

Where the CLA truly shines is in its impressive range. The 250+ boasts an estimated 492 miles per charge, while the 350 4Matic offers 479 miles, based on the WLTP testing cycle. While real-world EPA figures will likely be slightly lower, they are expected to exceed 400 miles. The new MMA platform’s 800-volt technology enables ultra-fast DC charging at speeds of up to 320 kW, allowing drivers to add approximately 200 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Design and Interior Features

Visually, the new CLA remains true to its concept form, sporting a dynamic and aerodynamic design that is both sleek and athletic. The illuminated grille, which highlights the iconic three-pointed star with glowing elements, adds a futuristic touch.

Inside, the CLA exudes luxury with a cutting-edge three-screen digital dashboard that spans the front panel, integrating the digital gauge cluster, infotainment system, and an optional passenger screen. A standard panoramic glass roof enhances the sense of space, particularly for rear passengers. The cabin is adorned with high-quality materials and a variety of customization options, ensuring a premium experience.

Availability and Pricing

The new CLA is expected to hit dealerships later this year. While official pricing has yet to be announced, industry estimates suggest it may start around $45,000, making it a competitive alternative to Tesla’s offerings. The hybrid variant is projected to debut sometime in 2026.
