Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula One world champion, marked his first official day as a Ferrari driver with an emotional message, calling it the realization of a lifelong dream.
“Today, my first as a Ferrari driver, is one I’ll remember forever,” Hamilton shared on social media, accompanied by photos of himself in an all-black suit standing beside a Ferrari F40 at the team’s headquarters in Maranello. “Part of me always held onto the dream of racing in red, and I couldn’t be happier to realize it today.”
Hamilton, who joined Ferrari after a 12-year stint with Mercedes, is gearing up for the 2025 Formula One season alongside teammate Charles Leclerc. He replaces Carlos Sainz, adding another chapter to the storied history of the Italian racing powerhouse.
The Briton’s day began with a warm reception from Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna and Team Principal Fred Vasseur. He toured the Fiorano track, visited Enzo Ferrari’s historic office, and met Piero Ferrari, Vice Chairman and son of the team’s founder. The immersion program also included stops at various departments to familiarize Hamilton with the team.
Fred Vasseur emphasized the team’s optimism, saying, “Hamilton’s experience and drive will be pivotal as we aim for championship glory this season.”
Hamilton’s gratitude was evident. “I’m incredibly thankful to John Elkann, Benedetto Vigna, and everyone at Ferrari for their trust. I’m committed to giving my all for the team, the organization, and the fans,” he said.
Ferrari’s last championship win dates back to 2007, and the team’s loyal fan base, the Tifosi, hopes Hamilton’s arrival will break the dry spell. With his unparalleled experience and a reinvigorated team, expectations for the 2025 season are high.
Hamilton concluded his message with a nod to the future. “Today, we start a new era, and I can’t wait to see what story we’ll write together.”
