Klein Vision, a Slovakian aviation startup, has announced that its AirCar will be certified and ready for commercial sale by the first quarter of 2026. If successful, it will be the world’s first certified flying car in over seven decades, following the limited production of the Aerocar in the 1950s.
The two-seat AirCar completed its maiden intercity flight in 2021 and has since logged 170 flight hours, including over 500 takeoffs and landings. The upcoming production model will weigh 440 pounds less than the prototype, thanks to a new lightweight composite body. It will also feature a Garmin avionics suite, a larger cockpit, and full digital engine controls.
With a flight range of up to 620 miles and a road range of 500 miles, the AirCar is designed to bypass airports and allow private takeoffs from suitable home locations. It runs on a small aircraft engine by Adept, and after 50 hours of test flights, it’s expected to receive EASA certification for European airspace. Pricing will start at $800,000 and could reach $1 million.
The AirCar can transition from car to aircraft in under three minutes, deploying its wings and tail at the press of a button. It aims to offer a seamless commute between cities, homes, and private landing zones—blending automotive freedom with aviation flexibility.
Klein Vision co-founder Anton Zajac said, “The AirCar fulfills a lifelong dream to bring the freedom of flight into the hands of everyday people.” The second prototype is set to fly in autumn, bringing the team one step closer to turning science fiction into everyday transport.
Hollywood actors Morgan Freeman and John Travolta presented Klein Vision with a Special Recognition Award at the 2025 Living Legends of Aviation Gala. Although initially skeptical, Freeman reportedly became more convinced after speaking with Zajac about the project’s tangible progress.
