A rare 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 that was owned by the late Hollywood icon Steve McQueen is expected to fetch up to $7 million USD at an upcoming auction. The classic and elegant coupe, which has a four-cam, 3.3-liter Colombo V-12 engine and a top speed of 166.5mph, was manufactured by Ferrari from 1966 to 1968, with just 280 models produced.
McQueen, nicknamed “King of Cool” for his film roles, was well-known for his passion for Ferraris. After four years of ownership, he sold the vehicle to a retired Australian racer. Ferrari Classiche later restored it to its original specifications between 2010 and 2013.
This iconic vehicle has a history of changing ownership, previously selling at an RM Auction in 2014 for $10 million USD. The car’s bodywork is by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, and it was finished in gold metallic paint when McQueen first received it on the set of Bullitt.
McQueen had a daily driver in his 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso but was also a proud owner of the Ferrari 275 GTB/4. As the King of Cool of the late 1960s, McQueen’s vehicles lived up to his name and became a quintessential part of his overall aesthetic.
RM Sotheby’s will be auctioning off this rare and sought-after Ferrari 275 GTB/4 this summer and is expected to sell between $5 million to $7 million. While the moral value of the car comes from its association with Steve McQueen, the car’s rarity, high-performance specifications, and impeccable design make it a highly coveted item in the classic car market.
