Heesen, a Dutch shipbuilder, has launched its largest steel motor yacht to date, Sparta, a 220-foot superyacht designed for power, elegance, and bespoke luxury.

Sparta surpasses the previous record-holder in Heesen’s fleet, Lusine, by 23 feet. With a gross tonnage of 1,200 GT, it stands as one of the most technically complex and beautifully crafted vessels the yard has ever delivered. Over its 45-year history, Heesen has built more than 200 yachts, but Sparta now holds the crown for size and design sophistication.

First conceptualised in 2018 alongside London-based Winch Design, Sparta stayed remarkably true to its original vision. Sporting a sleek reverse bow and a low, athletic profile, the vessel’s exterior is finished in a radiant “Snow White” livery, offset by sharp red and grey metallic accents. Full-length tinted glass lines both sides, emphasizing the yacht’s dramatic silhouette.

Inside, Sparta takes inspiration from the natural elements. Each deck embodies a distinct theme—water, earth, and air. A floating oak staircase and glass elevator connect all three levels. The lower deck houses a 700-square-foot Japanese-inspired spa complete with an elliptical whirlpool, steam room, gym, sauna, and beauty area.

Accommodation includes two owner’s suites on a private deck and four guest cabins on the main deck, all custom-furnished. The main salon features panoramic views and elegant lounging spaces. Outdoors, a 21-foot infinity pool and open-air beach terrace offer direct access to the sea. Other features include a Jacuzzi-equipped flybridge and a foredeck lounge.

Winch Design crafted all furniture in collaboration with Siebensee and Leerdam. “We take pride in building yachts that match bold visions with Dutch precision,” said Peter van der Zanden, Head of Engineering at Heesen.

Sparta will undergo sea trials in the North Sea following its final commissioning phase at Heesen’s Oss shipyard. Delivery is expected later this year.
