Five fast motorcycle riders who made history with their speed

The world of motorcycle racing is full of incredible stories of speed, endurance, impressive records, and amazing accomplishments. Some of the fastest motorcycle riders in history have achieved incredible feats. Here are five of them.

This American rider holds the world record for the fastest speed on a motorcycle, reaching an incredible 376.363 miles per hour (605.697 km/h) in 2010 on a custom-built turbine-powered motorcycle at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Chris Carr:

Another American rider, Chris Carr holds the record for the fastest speed on a production motorcycle, reaching a top speed of 342.797 miles per hour (551.596 km/h) on a heavily modified Suzuki Hayabusa in 2006 at the BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials.

Burt Munro:

This New Zealand rider is famous for his role in the movie The World’s Fastest Indian, which tells the story of his attempt to set a land speed record on his Indian Scout motorcycle. In 1967, he set a new land speed record for motorcycles under 1000cc by achieving a top speed of 183.586 miles per hour (295.453 km/h) at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Dave Roper:

Roper, another American legend holds the record for the fastest speed on a vintage motorcycle. Roper achieved a top speed of 223.420 miles per hour (359.763 km/h) on a 1948 Vincent Black Lightning at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2004.

Bob Leppan:

This South African rider, also known as “Golden Boy,” is a former world champion drag racer and land speed record holder. He set a new world record by reaching a top speed of 245.667 miles per hour (395.286 km/h) on a custom-built motorcycle at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1991.

What you should know about the Bonneville Salt Flats

The Bonneville Salt Flats is a unique and iconic natural feature in western Utah. It covers over 30,000 acres of land and has a hard, flat salt crust up to five feet thick in some places.

The flats were formed by the drying up of ancient Lake Bonneville. It is famous for being a testing ground for speed and land speed records, where many of the world’s fastest land vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and jet-powered vehicles, have raced. The flats are also popular among photographers and filmmakers because of their otherworldly landscape.
