Cadillac drivers may soon unlock, start, and secure their cars using nothing more than an iPhone or Apple Watch, as new backend code suggests Apple Car Key support is headed to select models. The move signals a major step toward seamless, hardware-driven convenience for luxury-car owners. It also gives Cadillac fans a new level of digital ease at a time when the wider industry races toward fully connected mobility.
The upcoming integration will allow drivers to store a secure digital key inside the Apple Wallet app. Using NFC and related short-range wireless technology, users will be able to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles by tapping or approaching their device. This feature, long associated with premium German brands, is now becoming a mainstream expectation across luxury lineups.
The timing is striking. General Motors has been phasing out Apple CarPlay from many of its EVs as it builds deeper in-house infotainment systems. Yet GM is still embracing Apple’s secure credential layer, showing a clear separation between dashboard control and physical vehicle access. In essence, GM may not want Apple running the screen, but it is comfortable with Apple opening the doors.
Apple hinted at this wider rollout during WWDC 2025, announcing that 13 additional automakers would soon join the Car Key ecosystem. Cadillac is expected to sit alongside Acura, Porsche, GMC, Chevrolet, and Rivian, among others. The expansion underscores the industry’s accelerating shift toward “phone-as-key” systems, already used by BMW, Genesis, Hyundai, and several EV startups.
While exact Cadillac models and launch dates remain undisclosed, Apple’s backend support suggests the rollout is close. Once activated, owners will gain a secure digital alternative to traditional fobs, reducing reliance on physical keys and improving everyday convenience. For many customers, the feature will make the smartphone feel even more central to the driving experience.
As digital vehicle access becomes a global trend, Cadillac’s move positions the brand at the intersection of luxury mobility and premium hardware integration. The question now is not whether the feature will arrive, but how quickly it will become a standard expectation across Cadillac’s entire lineup.
