Chinese automaker BYD has achieved a significant milestone, rolling its 7 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) off the assembly line.
The 7 millionth vehicle is a revamped version of the Denza N7 SUV, BYD’s premium sub-brand announced on its Weibo account today. The updated N7 is set for an official launch on April 1st.
BYD entered the automotive industry in 2003 and began selling NEVs in 2008. Today, the company boasts a diverse portfolio with dozens of NEV models available to consumers.
Furthermore, BYD achieved its first NEV milestone in May 2021 with the production of a Han EV, becoming the first Chinese carmaker to hit one million NEVs. The company then celebrated its 5 millionth NEV in August 2023, another Denza N7.
In November 2023, BYD’s 6 millionth NEV rolled off the assembly line, the Bao 5 – the first model from its personalized brand, Fang Cheng Bao.
BYD’s automotive portfolio includes its main BYD Auto brand alongside premium sub-brands like Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang.
Denza, originally a joint venture between BYD and Daimler with a 50/50 stake established in 2011, became majority-owned by BYD in 2022 (90% stake). The revitalized Denza brand launched its first model, the D9 MPV, in August 2022, followed by the 2024 D9 in March 2023. Denza also entered the competitive electric SUV market with the July 2023 launch of the N7, a Tesla Model Y rival starting at RMB 301,800 ($41,920).
