Consumer Reports (CR), a trusted source for auto buyers seeking comprehensive car and truck-buying advice, has released its highly anticipated “Worst Cars of 2024” list. While CR’s “Best Of” rankings highlight top performers, the “Worst Of” list is equally critical for potential buyers. Here, we dive into the five models to avoid in 2024, according to CR, along with expert insights on each brand.

1. Rivian: Innovative yet unreliable

Rivian, launched in 2009, initially garnered praise as a groundbreaking addition to the electric vehicle (EV) market. However, CR’s 2024 assessment places Rivian’s two models, the R1S and R1T, on the “Worst Cars” list due to low-reliability scores despite a strong performance.

The company’s financial woes have exacerbated the situation. Rivian’s stock hit an all-time low this year, reflecting broader challenges beyond vehicle reliability.

2. GMC Sierra 1500: Strong but noisy

GMC’s Sierra 1500, a visually striking and robust truck, unfortunately, falls short in several areas. According to CR, no GMC model achieved high ratings this year, with the Sierra 1500, particularly irking owners.

The 2024 Sierra 1500 boasts a galvanized grill, powerful running boards, and steel bumpers designed for heavy-duty tasks. However, owners reported excessive noise, including creaks, pops, and rattles. Reliability issues further mar its appeal.

3. Jaguar F-Pace: Style over substance

Jaguar F-Pace

While enthusiasts believe Jaguar’s F-Type, the F-Pace SUV has not met expectations. CR surveys reveal that owners are frustrated by persistent noise issues and long waits for service appointments, which often fail to resolve the problems.

Despite its stylish Jaguar badge, the F-Pace lacks the excitement and reliability one would expect from the brand, making it a disappointment in the luxury SUV segment.

4. Land Rover Range Rover Sport: Luxury with letdowns

Land Rover Range Rover Sport

The Range Rover Sport is known for its luxurious interior, featuring high-quality materials, a quiet ride, and spacious cargo areas. Standard leather upholstery and heated seats enhance its appeal.

However, Land Rover’s overall performance on CR’s lists is disappointing. The Range Rover Sport is rated the second worst brand in 2024, with significant reliability issues overshadowing its luxurious features.

5. Jeep Grand Cherokee: Family-friendly but flawed

Jeep’s Grand Cherokee remains a favourite among fans, including those who appreciate its family-friendly design. The 2024 model offers ample space for family trips and long road journeys.

Nevertheless, CR points to the Grand Cherokee’s notably low reliability, despite its higher price compared to rivals, the vehicle’s power and performance fail to impress, leaving potential buyers considering alternatives.
