BMX, which stands for “Bicycle Motocross,” is a high-energy sport that combines the thrill of racing with the creativity of freestyle riding. Over the years, there have been a lot of memorable BMX races that pushed the limits of what can be done on a bike. Here are the three BMX races we think were the most interesting in history:
1981’s BMX World Championships:
In 1981, in Nottingham, England, the first BMX World Championships were held. Riders from all over the world competed in both racing and freestyle categories, making the event a huge success. One of the best parts of the event was the freestyle competition, which had Eddie Fiola and R.L. Osborn, two of the best BMX riders at the time. The event helped to prove that BMX was a real sport and set the stage for future races.
The X Games (1995):
The X Games have been held every year since 1995. They are a competition for extreme sports. There are a lot of different sports at the event, like skateboarding, surfing, and BMX. At the X Games, the BMX competition is always one of the most-anticipated events. Riders do tricks and stunts that look like they could kill them in front of huge crowds. The BMX competition has given us some of the most memorable moments in the history of the X Games. In 2005, Danny Way broke a record by jumping over the Great Wall of China.
The Dew Tour (2005):
Since 2005, the Dew Tour has been a multi-stop action sports competition. There are a lot of different sports at the event, like skateboarding, snowboarding, and BMX. One of the most exciting parts of the Dew Tour is the BMX competition, where riders do amazing tricks and stunts on both dirt and street courses. The BMX competition has given us some of the most memorable moments in Dew Tour history, like Ryan Nyquist’s winning run in the dirt finals in 2010.
Some of the most interesting BMX races in history have been these three. From the first BMX World Championships to the crazy tricks at the X Games and Dew Tour, these events have pushed the limits of what is possible on a bike and helped make BMX a legitimate and exciting sport.
