American Airlines has introduced its yearly campaign dedicated to raising funds for crucial cancer research. The airline, in partnership with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a non-profit organization focused on innovative cancer research, is extending an invitation to members of its loyalty program, AAdvantage, to contribute to this noble cause, according to a report by Simple Flying.

Participants who opt to donate more than $25 online will be rewarded with 25 bonus American Airlines AAdvantage miles for every dollar they contribute. In addition, a special promotion is being offered by Mastercard, the partner for AAdvantage’s credit card. Donors who choose to give through the American Airlines AAdvantage Mastercard will receive 50 bonus miles per dollar donated.

The primary objective of the campaign is to raise a cumulative donation of $3 million. After this threshold is reached, bonus award miles will no longer be provided. The campaign was officially launched on the aforementioned date and will continue until September 30, 2023, or until the targeted goal is met.

Highlighting a continued commitment

Stand Up To Cancer marked the commencement of this year’s nationwide campaign with its eighth biennial television fundraising special on August 29. The event showcased a video featuring Robert Isom, Chief Executive Officer of American Airlines, and presented testimonials from American employees who had been personally impacted by cancer.

Isom emphasized the airline’s ongoing dedication to battling cancer and expressed pride in the enduring partnership between American Airlines and the non-profit organization. In a statement released during the launch of the campaign, Isom stated:

“Throughout our seven-year collaboration with Stand Up To Cancer, the support from our generous team members and customers has been remarkable. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Stand Up To Cancer and advance their mission to raise funds and continue accelerating the pace of groundbreaking research.”

Since their initial partnership in 2016, American Airlines has successfully raised nearly $18 million to support Stand Up To Cancer’s initiatives. In 2019, the airline expanded its support by allowing donors to have the name of a loved one lost to cancer inscribed on the side of an Airbus A321.

Acknowledging American Airlines’ contributions

Rusty Robertson, co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer, expressed deep gratitude for American’s involvement and ongoing support. In a statement following the campaign’s announcement, Robertson remarked:

“Tackling cancer is a community effort, which is why we’re so grateful for our long-term supporters, American Airlines, and their generous customers. This year, nearly 2 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer and their long-term survival depends on the work of scientists to discover new, life-saving treatments. We’re hopeful Stand Up To Cancer-funded research will continue to help solve this disease’s biggest and most urgent challenges. Our donors help to make it all possible.”
