Kimi Antonelli delivered another statement performance on Sunday, surviving a chaotic late-race restart to claim victory at the Monaco Grand Prix and extend his remarkable winning streak to five races.

The 19-year-old Mercedes driver dominated Formula 1’s most famous race from start to finish, overcoming safety cars, a red flag, and a second standing start to secure his maiden Monaco victory and strengthen his hold on the Formula 1 Championship.

The win leaves Antonelli with a commanding 66-point lead in the drivers’ standings after six races.

“You can be in no doubt you are looking at a generational talent in Formula 1,” said Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle.

Mercedes Star Extends Championship Lead

Starting from pole position, Antonelli quickly built a sizeable advantage over Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton.

The Italian opened a gap of nearly 30 seconds before late incidents involving Lance Stroll and Charles Leclerc triggered safety cars and eventually a red flag, erasing his hard-earned lead.

Despite the pressure of a complete race reset, Antonelli remained calm.

“It has been an incredible weekend and an incredible race,” Antonelli said. “The car was feeling incredible and giving me the confidence to push.”

When racing resumed for the final eight laps, Antonelli held off Hamilton at the restart and immediately pulled away, finishing 6.271 seconds ahead of the seven-time world champion.

FIA Penalties Shake Up Monaco Results

The race was heavily influenced by penalties.

George Russell’s difficult weekend worsened after a pit-lane speeding penalty was incorrectly served during a late pit stop. Stewards later issued a drive-through penalty, dropping the Mercedes driver from a potential podium finish to 12th place.

“The punishment doesn’t fit the crime,” Russell said after the race.

Further drama affected Pierre Gasly, whose podium hopes disappeared after multiple penalties pushed him down to seventh.

The penalties opened the door for Isack Hadjar of Red Bull Racing to secure his first Formula 1 podium finish.

Ferrari Gains Ground as Rivals Falter

Hamilton’s second-place finish marked another strong result for Ferrari and moved him ahead of Russell into second place in the championship standings.

Meanwhile, championship contenders Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc all failed to score points after suffering mechanical issues or crashes.

The outcome also allowed Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad to secure their team’s best points haul since 2021.

With five straight victories and growing confidence inside Mercedes, Antonelli heads to Spain as the clear favorite to continue one of Formula 1’s most dominant starts by a young driver in recent memory.
