Nissan has officially shipped its highly anticipated Ariya electric vehicles (EVs) to Australia, marking a significant step in its global electrification strategy. The new models, produced at the Tochigi Plant in Japan, are expected to broaden consumer access to affordable, next-generation EVs.

The Ariya range will be available in four variants, Engage, Advance, Advance+, and Evolve e-4orce, with prices starting from $55,840 and topping at $71,840. The pricing is notably lower than industry analysts predicted, strengthening Nissan’s appeal in a competitive EV market.

Buyers will be able to choose between 2WD and AWD versions, powered by batteries ranging from 63kWh to 87kWh. Depending on the configuration, the Ariya delivers driving ranges between 239 miles and 313 miles, positioning it among the most versatile options in its class.

Nissan says this expansion represents the next stage of its electric journey. Warwick Daly, Nissan Australia’s Deputy Head of Marketing and Mobility, explained, “Nissan wrote the mass-market EV blueprint with the Leaf, and the Ariya represents the next chapter of our electric vision, with incredible design, technology, and most importantly, an engaging drive experience.”

The arrival of the Ariya also highlights the economic and environmental benefits of EV adoption. Studies suggest EV owners save up to 60% on fuel costs compared to petrol car drivers. A University of Michigan study estimated powering an EV costs about $485 annually, less than half the $1,100 average for petrol-powered vehicles.

Environmental campaigners note that wider adoption of EVs, especially when combined with home solar charging, can cut carbon emissions and help create healthier cities. For many Australians, the Ariya’s arrival represents not just a new car choice, but a pathway toward cleaner, more cost-effective transport.

One enthusiast summed up the mood simply: “Great to see the Nissan Ariya in Australia… at last!”
