Volvo is taking a bold leap forward in connected car technology by expanding its partnership with Google to integrate Gemini, the tech giant’s most advanced conversational AI, into its future vehicles. The collaboration, announced at Google I/O 2025, will begin with the flagship Volvo EX90 and extend across future models equipped with Google built-in.

The move positions Volvo at the forefront of AI-powered driving experiences. Gemini will soon replace Google Assistant, offering drivers smarter, safer, and more human-like voice interactions behind the wheel. From translating messages in real time to delivering vehicle-specific guidance and local travel insights, the system is designed to keep drivers informed without taking their eyes off the road.

Volvo’s role goes beyond early adoption. The Swedish automaker will now serve as a reference hardware platform for Android Automotive OS development. This means Volvo drivers will receive Android performance updates and new features before anyone else, benefiting from quicker access to smarter tech as it evolves.

With over 734 million cars expected to be connected by 2030, the race to build intuitive, voice-first in-car experiences is intensifying. Volvo’s strategy reflects its focus on human-centric design and smart mobility. It’s not just about better cars, it’s about safer, more helpful journeys.
