After an extensive 94-day closure for repairs, the Third Mainland Bridge, Africa’s second longest bridge, has been officially reopened to traffic. The announcement came on Thursday from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressing gratitude for the swift and meticulous repair work carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement, expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the necessary improvements on the bridge, attributing the success to the dedicated efforts of all involved parties. He particularly thanked former governor Bola Tinubu and Minister of Works, David Umahi, for their focused attention on the project, which facilitated its timely and quality completion.

In his announcement, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “I am pleased to announce the full reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge after extended repair works have been completed to ensure its safety and efficiency for all residents. Your patience and resilience during this period have been paramount in maintaining our city’s economic momentum.”

He also extended gratitude to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation for their effective management of traffic during the repair period, minimizing disruptions and ensuring smooth flow for commuters.

“As we embrace the smoother journeys that the newly renovated bridge provides,” Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized, “it also calls for a renewed emphasis on road safety. Our shared commitment to safety ensures not only our well-being but also the well-being of other road users.”
