Tesla has solidified its status as a global frontrunner in the automotive industry, with the Tesla Model Y emerging as the best-selling vehicle worldwide. Preliminary data compiled by industry experts from Jato Dynamics and Car Industry Analysis already points to a clear victory for the electric vehicle (EV) giant.

Global Domination: Preliminary figures paint a promising picture

Despite some countries withholding full-year sales data, early reports suggest that Tesla’s Model Y is set to dominate the global market. Jato Dynamics, renowned for closely monitoring global new car registration figures, projects the Tesla Model Y to secure its place as the most sought-after new car of 2023. The final data, eagerly awaited, is expected to be unveiled in the second quarter.

Preliminary figures reveal a staggering accomplishment for Tesla, as over 1.23 million Tesla Model Ys were registered worldwide in the past year alone. This marks a remarkable 64% increase compared to the previous year. China, a key market for Tesla, played a pivotal role in this triumph, with the delivery of more than 456,000 Model Ys in 2023.

Toppling Titans: Model Y ousts Toyota RAV4 from pole position

In a historic shift, the Tesla Model Y has surpassed the Toyota RAV4, dethroning the previously leading SUV. The RAV4, which secured the top spot in 2022 with 1.02 million units delivered, now faces tough competition.

According to Jato Dynamics’ preliminary figures, the RAV4 is expected to register 1.07 million units in 2023, placing it in a commendable second position.

Impressive rankings: Toyota Corolla secures third place

While the Tesla Model Y and Toyota RAV4 vie for the top spot, the Toyota Corolla maintains its standing as a formidable contender. With 1.01 million units delivered, the Corolla secures a respectable third place, further highlighting Toyota’s continued presence in the competitive global automotive landscape.
