Rolls-Royce has made an official announcement stating that the production of its iconic convertible, the Dawn, has come to an end. This news signifies the conclusion of Dawn’s impressive seven-year run in the automotive industry.

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, Rolls-Royce has made a strategic decision to allocate production resources for the upcoming launch of the Spectre EV, scheduled to debut in 2023.

With the discontinuation of the Dawn, the lineup of Rolls-Royce vehicles powered by a combustion engine now consists of the Ghost, Phantom, and Cullinan models. The Dawn, a luxurious four-seater convertible, drew inspiration from the renowned “Silver Dawn” model produced between 1950 and 1954. Equipped with a formidable 6.6-liter V12 twin-turbo engine boasting 564 horsepower and 8-speed automatic transmission, the Dawn embodied power and elegance.

Anticipated to be delivered in the final quarter of 2023, the Spectre EV represents a significant milestone for Rolls-Royce as the company nears the completion of its electric vehicle development and testing phase.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös , CEO of Rolls-Royce confirmed in 2022 that the introduction of EVs would play a pivotal role in the brand’s future. While the discontinuation of the Dawn marks the end of an era, there is currently no convertible alternative available in the Rolls-Royce lineup.

Müller-Ötvös expressed his thoughts on this development, stating, “As production of the Dawn draws to a close, we can reflect on an extraordinary chapter in the history of our marque. This exquisite motor car perfectly represents contemporary luxury while honoring our brand’s founding principles and rich heritage.” The discontinuation of the Dawn signifies the closing of a glorious and glamorous chapter in Rolls-Royce’s history, as the company prepares to embrace the exciting possibilities offered by electric vehicle.
