Mercedes-Benz is set to broaden its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio with the introduction of a compact, all-electric version of its iconic G-Class SUV, informally dubbed the “Little G.” Scheduled for release in early 2027, this new model aims to deliver the brand’s renowned off-road capabilities in a more accessible and environmentally friendly package.

The Little G is anticipated to offer a driving range exceeding 434 miles (700 kilometers) on a single charge, positioning it among the top-tier long-range EVs. This impressive range is expected to be achieved through Mercedes-Benz’s fifth-generation battery technology and an 800-volt electrical architecture, facilitating rapid charging and enhanced performance.

While the full-size electric G-Class, the EQG, is built on a traditional ladder-frame chassis, the Little G will utilize a modern unibody platform. This design choice aims to retain the G-Class’s signature ruggedness and off-road prowess while offering improved on-road handling and efficiency.

Design-wise, the Little G will maintain the distinctive boxy silhouette and round LED headlights characteristic of the G-Class lineage. Early renderings suggest a two-door configuration, providing a fresh take on the classic design. The vehicle is expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, ensuring robust off-road capabilities.

Pricing for the Little G is projected to start around $60,000, making it a more affordable alternative to the larger EQG, which is priced upwards of $143,000. This strategic pricing aims to attract a broader customer base seeking luxury electric SUVs with genuine off-road capabilities.

Production of the Little G is slated to commence in late 2026 at Mercedes-Benz’s Kecskemét plant in Hungary, with sales expected to begin in early 2027. The introduction of the Little G underscores Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to expanding its EV lineup and adapting to the growing demand for sustainable, high-performance vehicles.
